Five the Eatery, located in Maraval Plaza, Port of Spain is a portal to delicious comfort food without the guilt.

This quaint deli style restaurant is modern and inviting, reminiscent of those found abroad. Five the Eatery has seating for those wanting to dine in, have a meeting, or meet with friends. They also have shelves stocked daily with “grab and go” items which include salads, protein bowls and dips.

The menu features international favourites such as Mac and Cheese, Shakshuka, Avocado Toast and Peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches (with sliced banana). At their menu tasting, I fell in love with the Bake and Shark Taco. There is no other way to describe it than a bake and shark from Maracas beach met a fish taco from Los Angeles, fell in love and created this flavourful, jump for joy, scream out loud, dance in your seat union.

The portions would be Goldilocks approved, not to big, not too small, just right. However, this is not the place for someone who’s looking for a big plate of food, Trini style. The most expensive item on the menu is TTD $79. For healthy comfort food made with fresh ingredients and all this flavour, the prices are on point.

Coffee lovers will be pleased to know that you can create your own coffee with the variety of flavour additions available at the counter. If you’re a fan of Caribbean Roasters, you’ll find them right here, hot and cold. If you’re not a coffee lover like myself, the variety of Kombuchas, and Fentiman’s drinks may appeal to you, however, I would definitely recommend the sparkling flavoured water made in house using fresh fruit and herbs.

For all the vegans in the place who don’t want moo, oink or cluck on their plates, I sampled the vegan mac and cheese JUST for you. Although creamy, it lacked that comforting mac and cheese flavour. Don’t worry, owner Daynah Buxo assured me that she was going to take care of that. You’re welcome.
